On this page, this is where I put on a list of people who have been
mentioned as possible candidates for an office or leadership
position. This is based on what had been mentioned in news
reports. I will also put on here where each person mentioned stands
(i.e. whether they said that they want to run or not.)

Mayor's Race |
|

|
Sheila
Dixon (D)
City Council President
Interim Mayor
Wants to run for her own term.
As of November
14, 2006, She leads the money race. |
|
|
|

|
Jill Carter(D)
Delegate - District 41
OFFICIALLY IN AS OF DECEMBER 23, 2006 (The
Sun)
Originally mentioned as a possible
contender by The
Gazette on November 13, 2006 |
|
|
|
 |
Kweisi
Mfume(D)
Former Congressman - 2nd Dist.
Former NAACP President
U.S. Senate Candidate 2006
Former City Councilman
Has stated many times that he has
no interest in running. Telling WBAL (1090AM) on November
13, 2006 that he wishes Dixon the best. According to
the Baltimore Sun on December
23, 2006, He established an exploratory committee to run of
any office in the state last month. |
|
|
 |
Joan Pratt (D)
City Comptroller
At last check she has formed a
exploratory committee. |
|
|
 |
Kieffer Mitchell (D)
Councilman - District 11
Mentioned as a possible contender
by The
Gazette on November 13, 2006 |
|
|
 |
Patricia Jessamy (D)
Baltimore City State's Attorney
At this point, I would say the name
is being floated via a Gazette article from November
10. It's the same article as mentioned above, although
it was focused on Carter and Mitchell. On December 21, it
was reported in The
Baltimore Sun that she had received a near $83,000 raise by
Mayor Martin O'Malley (D). A move that some are calling back
handed, considering the two have had a contentious relationship in
recent years. |
|
State Senate President
Editor's Note:
Keep in mind that many black democrats were upset at the fact that
they had only one black official on a statewide ticket and that
many feel that the party abandoned Kweisi Mfume for Ben Cardin in
the U.S. Senate race. So watch for a number of black state
senators to be mentioned. This list is based on a
Washington
Times
article that was published on November 28, 2006. |
|

|
Sen.
Nathaniel McFadden (D)
District 45 - Baltimore City
Come January he will become
President Pro Temp. I see this as a try out for the position
when Miller leaves office after 2010, hence why he tops this list. |
|
|
|

|
Sen.
Lisa Gladden (D)
District 41 - Baltimore City
soon to be Vice Chairman, Judicial
Proceedings Committee |
|
|
 |
Sen.
Joan Carter Conway (D)
District 43 - Baltimore City
soon to be Chairman, Education, Health and Environmental Affairs
Committee.
Considered a long shot. |
|
|
 |
Thomas
"Mac" Middleton (D)
District 28 - Charles County
Chairman, Fincance Committee |
|
|
 |
Sen.
Brian Frosh (D)
District 16 - Montgomery County
Chairman, Judicial Proceedings Committee
The Times notes that he more
liberal that Sen. Thomas Mike Miller or Middleton. He is
also the only one to openly express an interest. I would
also not that he is an anti-slots opponent. |
|
|
 |
Sen.
Ulysses Currie
District 25 - Prince George's County
Chairman, Budget and Taxation Committee
From The Times: "I'm not a
candidate for anything. I'm just focusing on the
budget. Four years is a long time in this business." |
