Yes, it’s a war…but I’m still saying Happy Holidays

...and Happy Holidays too!

I will be the first person to tell you that the “War on Christmas” is not imaginary.  It is very real.  In fact I remember me and a friend going to Target around this time four years ago and we saw a “Holiday Tree” as opposed to a Christmas Tree.  At which point I turned to her and asked, “When did you guys have a tree for Chaunukkah growing up?”  I think Target didn’t want to hear it this year because they have big “Marry Christmas” signs hanging all over the store.

Overall, I would not say that it is so much a war on Christmas, more than it is a war on Christianity as a whole.  Looking at everyday media, you have people lining up to defend the rights of Muslims, Sikhs, Buddhists, Atheists, Agnostics, et cetera.  Let someone speak up for the rights of Christians, you will get chided as the days are long.

Christians are the only openly ridiculed in public and the media.  President Obama has openly displayed of intolerance/ignorance of Christianity.  We have since witnessed and heard the clips of him ridiculing the Bible and peoples beliefs in God.  Mr. Obama is not the only “President” to ridicule the Bible based on ignorance.  Martin Sheen in his role on “The West Wing” had a similar rant.  Whether Sheen actually believed what was written for him is not at question, but the writer of that episode certainly seems to be completely ignorant to write such a thing.  Had “President” Bartlet had wrote something similar only with the Koran, there would be an uproar.

Whenever conservatives point out Muslim extremists, liberals not only point out Christian extremists, but they use them as a poster child for all Christians, while at the same time not being “open” about counter viewpoints.  Then again, they aren’t really that open as AfroCity Brown had pointed out recently.  She also made another great point recently:

Sure, we should accommodate everyone. But why should I give up my right to say Merry Christmas in order to do that? Why should my identity as a Christian be denied?

Here is the problem.  Christians are looked on as hypocritical…and for the most part its true (sad as it sounds.)  Don’t think I wasn’t going to address it.  It’s one thing to be wrong, but it’s a completely thing to be wrong and then not acknowledge it.  It’s one thing to be a Christian outside of the corner office, but the scenario changes when you go into your corner office and not practice any semblance of Christian character.

Everyone loves throwing around the scripture “Judge not, lest ye be judged” when they are doing the dirt, yet they will go around as judge jury and executioner on other people.  How can you talk about other people and not acknowledge your dirt?  The bible also says take the spear out of your eye before pointing out someone’s nail.

At the same time, there are hypocritical Jews, Muslims, and so on.  Anyone that openly does not practice what they preach without remorse is a hypocrite.

Christians seem to be the only group that has to change it’s ways and modify it’s marriage by force of government.  Why would the recent expansion of the hate crimes act needed to be left open for interpretation, while at the same time expanding coverage to people who practice homosexuality?  As broad as the law is, and as opportunistic some activist lawyers are, anyone who says that they are against homosexuality could be charged with a hate crime.

Christians are the only group that says that practicing homosexuality is a sin (for the most part, I know there are a few denominations that have chosen to ignore parts of the Bible.)  In the meantime, homosexuality is a sin if you are Muslim, Jewish, Hindu or most other religions, if not all.  Keep in mind; I am only mentioning homosexuality as an example.

When Christians stand on their principals, they are called often called narrow minded.  I actually spent time thinking about why.  Christianity, when actually practiced in full not in part, has standards.  You can just have sex with anyone (only between man and woman as husband and wife), you cannot kill, you cannot steal, and you cannot lie.

If you do anything outside of the above mentioned acts, the world will call you a hypocrite.   But what the world doesn’t know or recognize is that Christians know that God himself knew that we were going to mess-up; hence why 1 John 1:9 is in the Bible.  Also remember my definition of a hypocrite from earlier.

So the war on Christmas is very much real, but it’s apart of a larger war on Christianity, thanks to a group of people who either cannot grasp the simple message of the Gospel or because they want to do whatever they want.

However, I will still say Happy Holidays.  Christmas, Chanukkah and New Year’s are more than one holiday.  I will still say Merry Christmas and Happy Chanukkah and Happy New Year, but please to not lambaste me for throwing in a Happy Holidays every now and then.
