Tuesday Music: American Boy
So on my way into work yesterday, right before I parked I had tuned to Hot 99.5. No particular reason, just wanted to see what was happening round the radio band in general. When I heard this song, it actually kept me on 99.5 for a little while as I master parallel parking in Arlington. Normally I speed by HOT! sorry. Anyway, I instantly knew it was a british artist because it does not sound like an American song.
Here’s something that you probably might not pick up about British music, it is a unique blend of different sounds and genre’s that American do not appreciate sometimes. That sound had the groove of a Jamiroquai song with Lily Allen like progression in the vocals. I knew it wasn’t Lily Allen because she normally does not have that smooth sexy voice in her.
So this morning as I was pulling up 99.5′s play list from yesterday, the big shock came…I genuinely like a song featuring that whiny pinko Kanye West. As I stated in the past, I like Kanye’s beats, I just can’t stand him. While people are busting it just to get a hit record, he is getting nominated for awards, yet he get’s whinny everytime he loses an award. He should be happy someone likes him enough to nominate his crusty snooty butt.
Anyway, the focus is on the music, thankfully his role is minimal, but I like this song and I like the sound and that is all that matters. So here is Estelle featuring rotten brat brat Kanye West with American Boy. Thankfully, Atlantic Records is kind enough to share their artists unlike Universal Music.
If you have any music ideas, pass them along!
Who got owned?
One of the funniest TV perp walks of all-time, but who got owned? Was it the TV cameraman who was filimng this perp walk in Anne Arundel County, Maryland or the perp who was cussing the TV cameraman out who was in cuffs and being escorted to the car? Let’s figure it out.
REDSKINS WIN!!!! YES!!!!
This is an amazing day for us Redskins fans.
Now unlike those who are ready to jump in on the bandwagon, I am man enough to admit that I was not looking forward to this season. A first year head coach and a team being ran by someone who wants to buy a super bowl. Nevermind the fact that the General Manager has all the front office knowledge of Matt Millen.
So when I saw the first game against the Giants, I was dumbfounded. It was a sloppy football game that they should have edged out because the Giants got lazy in the second half. The next two games involved teams that we should have beaten (and we did.)
This game was nerve wrecking before that. This is what you would call a rivalry. I cannot stand Dallas, and from a broadcasters perspective, the only good thing that came out of Dallas was radio jingles. Anyway, I was preparing for a total smackdown and we would be at the receiving end…but that is why we play the game. Watching Dallas self-destruct was FREAKING WONDERFUL!!!!
Today will be the day where Dallas fans will be walking around Capital City with their heads hung in shame. We went down to the D and beat them in their yard. And it wasn’t a sloppy win either, we out played them through and through.
So up yours Dallas…with love…from Washington.
FRIDAY MUSIC: Easier Said Than Done
Good Friday folks. Today’s selection is a recent addition to my favorites collection. The person who told me about Shakatak is someone I affectionately call “my favorite munchkin.” Her name is Ada and we went to the same school way back when. She is currently helping me make my website look professional for which I am truly grateful…which is hilarious because I still owe her for lunch for helping me out with a radio show.
Anyway…last year she bugged me about this song that she really liked, to the point she found it on iTunes and bought it on the spot. That song just happen to be “Walk in the Night.” Last Week, I was trolling the YouTubes like I normally do and I found that Universal had posted a Shakatak music video from 1985, a song called “City Rhythm.” I would have posted it last week, but Universal does not like to share.
This edition of Friday Music is the song that she emailed me in response called “Easier Said Than Done” from the 1982 album “Nightbirds.” I love this song, and so will you (unless you are like Brian Griffiths, who doesn’t like smooth jazz, but whatever.)
Here is Shakatak from 1982 “performing” Easier Said Than Done on BBC’s Top of the Pops.
KB-RETRO: 98Rock Fat Guy Dancing Commercial
In the first of many, Lord willing, I will be posting videos I see from the YouTubes highlighting memorable teleivison stuff from the past. This stuff will mostly focus on life here in the Washington and Baltimore Area.
First up, the fat guy dancing commercial advertising 98Rock from the early 1990s, featuring the hot (at the time) Maryland glam band Kix…they are from Hagerstown.
To my fellow fat guy, embrace your fatdom!
